Anybody serve on the Hunley? The only ship with a fastrand drum (and periscope on the bridge).

I didn't know about the periscope on the bridge. Cool!
I wonder if any pics of this are around?

I was on the Hunley in Guam in 1978-1979

I had orders to join the Hunley in Charleston before it left for Guam but my Supply Officer on the USS Kalamazoo put an OP hold on me because I was still doing our year-end stock reconciliation at NSC Norfolk.

So, I ended up joining the ship after it reached Guam. I was in the S-7 shop during the ship's entire time in Guam and then I cross-decked to the Proteus when it relieved the Hunley.

I really enjoyed my time on Guam and visited the USO on my days off where I learned how to swim, spent time with a stripper (we even went on an overseas trip together) and played tennis. Unfortunately, I didn't have a car so I had to rely on the bus.

At work, I became very familiar with the UYK-5, IMMS, SUADPS and JUMPS.

I was on the USS Hunley when the Fastrand Drive was removed along with the CRPU. And there was a periscope on the bridge in '86, I have re-enlistment pictures with it in the background.
