Walt Beasley - I remember you. Do you remember me as an A School Instructor with you? Then DP1 Dean Wiley. If memory serves, you were a tall lankey DPC with a southern drawl. Have you any news on a DP1 Hal Steinkopf? Always wanted to know if he stayed in the Navy. He was kind of a renegade.

Yes I remember you, Dean. I may have used to be skinny but now I have put on a few pounds. I probably still have my southern drawl. I remember Steinkoph and how he wanted to learn how to shoot pool. Chief Stubblefield was willing to teach him but I think his rates were pretty high if you get my drift. I don't know what happened to any of those guys from school. I was stationed there from 1974 - 1979 and I seem to remember that you came at the latter part of my tour. Glad to hear from you.

Walt -

I too have forgotten some of the guys. Have you any word on the Ancient Mariner - DPC John Buckley?

Dean,
I last saw DP1 Hal Steinkopf in the early 90's at a DP SME Conf.
He picked up DPC in Bermuda around 84. He was transferred off the island unexpectantly and I filled the gapped billet after Indy in 85.

I saw Toby Ballard a few months ago. He is doing well living in Midland Texas. He gave me Brad Pangle's telephone number. Brad is living in Albany, Georgia waiting to retire from the government so that he can travel around and play golf. I am still trying to represent a few criminals around here.

Don't remember if I had you for an instructor or not, but, the name sounds familiar. I attended DP "A" and "C" School in the fall of 1977 and left to go to the USS Howard W. Gilmore (AS-16) in Sardinia, Italy from there. I was selected for DPC in 1996, however, would have had to extend a couple years to get the promotion. Being married and having just purchased a house in October 1995 in Inver Grove Heights, MN with plans to retire in May 1997 after 20 years I turned it down. No regrets.

Hi Walt.
I was on the Blue Ridge with you in the 80's. I was in Operations department. Good to see your name again. I'm in the south also. I have been living in Slidell, LA for the last 20 years. Retired as an E-9. Did some contract work for NASA, DOE and USDA for 10 years and totally retired in the summer of 2000. Y2K was really nice to us old farts with mainframe systems experience.

I guess I had you for an instructor then because I went through 'A' school in 1977. I'm terrible with names though. I would be very interested in the class pictures although as I recall we didn't have any taken? I could be wrong.

I don't know if you have heard of a site called togetherweserved. There are probably close to half a million sailors on the site, some really ancient and others who are still on active duty. I found several former shipmates there. I also posted the class pictures since I could not post them here.
